The Amazon Is Burning and We Must Stand With Indigenous Peoples to Protect It

Just imagine your house is on fire. You’re surrounded by smoke, and you’re frantically
looking for your loved ones. You can’t breathe, and no one is coming to
help. This is the awful reality for thousands who
live in the Amazon rainforest. Indigenous and forest peoples, this is
their home. They protect the Amazon, and the Amazon protects
our planet. And this is not a natural disaster. These illegal fires are being set intentionally
because of government policies that encourage global companies and banks
to plunder the rainforest for commodities like
soy, beef and oil. And we are dangerously close to the Amazon’s
tipping point. When the rainforest is gone, it’s gone forever. There’s no going back. You can’t talk about the climate without talking
about the Amazon. Indigenous peoples are proven by time and
by science to be the best protectors of the forest. It’s time for all of us to stand with them. We need the Amazon to protect our climate. Their house

is on fire. And we have the power to stop it. Together. Go to AmazonWatch.org to stand with indigenous
peoples. To protect the climate, we must protect the
Amazon rainforest.
